Former Australian Rugby Coach Eddie Jones Faces Second Round of Interviews with Japan Rugby Football Union

Eddie Jones quickly took action after arriving in Japan, interviewing for the vacant Brave Blossoms role. According to The Sydney Morning Herald, he was one of two coaches who interviewed with the Japan Rugby Football Union. The 63-year-old had officially finished his tenure with Rugby Australia and promptly moved to Japan where he interviewed for the role. The interview was attended by JFRU president Matsato Tsuchida, who has known Jones since the 1990s when Jones was a coach at Suntory, and chairman Kensuke Iwabuchi. The JFRU is expected to name Jamie Joseph’s successor before the new year. Jones, who led Japan to a historic World Cup win against the Springboks in 2015, is the strong favorite for the role. He expressed interest in the position last month. Despite originally denying any link to Japan, it was announced last month that he officially resigned from the Wallabies. Bell said he was personally disappointed to see Jones leave Australian rugby.
