Healy Stands Firm: Declares End of Aussie Era Premature After India Loss, Pushes for More Tests

Alyssa Healy rejects any suggestion that Australia’s hold on international women’s cricket is slipping, saying their Test loss to India is barely a blip on the team’s record. Australia faced their first Test defeat to India in Mumbai on Sunday, losing by eight wickets after being outplayed in foreign spinning conditions. This comes after a difficult period for the team, including the retirements of Meg Lanning and Rachael Hayes. In July, Australia retained the Ashes despite losing four out of six white-ball matches in England. Healy believes that their unfamiliarity with Test cricket and the conditions in India was a factor in the defeat. She sees more positives in the situation than negatives and is confident in the team’s ability to adapt and learn from this experience. Australia has spoken about shifting their mindset in white-ball cricket and upcoming matches against India will be a showing of that new approach. Healy also stated that three-Test tours of India would provide a better match-up between the two sides and expressed her disappointment that the Test series in India was not extended to three matches. She also believes that this Test should have formed part of a multi-format series, like most top-tier women’s tours.
