McLaren is teaming up with the Great Barrier Reef Foundation to have an impact on the climate. Additionally, McLaren will buy carbon credits from reforestation projects in the Amazon and CO2 removal initiatives in Britain and the US to reach net zero emissions by 2040. Moreover, McLaren is partnering with the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, an Australian non-profit that works to restore coral reefs. Australian racecar driver Oscar Piastri is one of the two Formula One drivers that McLaren employs. As part of its efforts to reduce its carbon emissions, McLaren has signed deals to buy carbon removal credits from Brazilian startup Mombak and Scottish firm UNDO, which focuses on enhanced rock weathering to remove CO2 from the atmosphere. McLaren’s ultimate aim is to achieve a 90% reduction in emissions by 2040, evidenced by the creation of their ‘Climate Contribution Programme’. Miguel Fernandez of Mombak has commented on the recent increase in the value of carbon credits, stating that ecological restoration cannot be carried out with just $20 per ton. McLaren’s partnership with Mombak represents a significant investment in the climate and nature conservation. Lastly, McLaren driver Valtteri Bottas has managed to raise $150,000 for Movember, a men’s health charity, by selling a ‘Bottass 2024’ calendar featuring photos of him to aid in prostate cancer research.
