Michael Cheika, a former Wallabies coach, has left Argentina, setting the stage for his replacement by assistant Felipe Contepomi. Cheika had guided Argentina to the semifinals of the Rugby World Cup in France, where they defeated teams like the All Blacks and England under his guidance. Despite being born in Australia, Cheika expressed pride in his time spent coaching Los Pumas and expressed confidence in Contepomi’s ability to lead the team. He also hinted at his desire to be involved in the 2027 World Cup and discussed potential future opportunities. Contepomi, a former player turned coach, expressed his gratitude for the chance to work under Cheika and succeed him as the head coach. Argentine Rugby Union (UAR) president Gabriel Travaglini thanked Cheika for his contributions and endorsed Contepomi as the right person to lead the team forward.
