In this series, teams are being selected for each state based on their performance in Australia’s domestic 50-over competition. This time, we are taking a look at Western Australia.
Shaun Marsh, with a career spanning from 2002 to 2022, has won three titles and scored 3672 runs at an average of 44.78, including 10 centuries and 11 man of the match awards. His records for one-day runs, player of the match awards, and centuries for WA are unmatched. He was also named man of the series in 2017-18 and player of the match in the 2019-20 final victory.
Geoff Marsh, from 1982 to 1994, won two titles and scored 1596 runs at an average of 53.2, along with three centuries and five man of the match awards. He was a consistent performer at the top of the order and holds the fifth-highest average in competition history and the highest for WA.
Damien Martyn, who played from 1991 to 2005, won one title and scored 2207 runs at an average of 47.17, with four centuries and five man of the match awards. His average is the second-highest in WA history.
Marcus North, a player from 2000 to 2013, won two titles and scored 2935 runs at an average of 41.92, with five centuries and 37 wickets, along with seven man of the match awards. He was selected over Adam Voges due to his additional title and the number of wickets taken compared to Voges.
Mike Hussey, from 1997 to 2013, won three titles and scored 2720 runs at an average of 38.85, with three centuries and eight man of the match awards.
Tom Moody, who played from 1985 to 2001, won four titles, scored 2004 runs at an average of 33.96, and took 70 wickets at an average of 30.44, earning nine man of the match awards.
Rod Marsh, who played from 1969 to 1984, won four titles and scored 762 runs, with 51 dismissals and two man of the match awards. He was known for his high strike rate during a dominant period for WA.
Brad Hogg, from 1994 to 2007, won two titles and took 60 wickets at an average of 32.55, along with 1169 runs and two man of the match awards.
Kade Harvey, who played from 1995 to 2005, won three titles and took 103 wickets at an average of 27.12, along with two man of the match awards.
Andrew Tye, a player from 2013 to 2022, won two titles and took 117 wickets at an average of 20.12, along with four man of the match awards. He is known for his bowling prowess and was the highest wicket-taker for WA.
Dennis Lillee, who played from 1969 to 1984, won three titles and took 48 wickets at an average of 15.95, along with two man of the match awards. He is well-known for his exceptional performances in key matches.
There are also many other honorable mentions for players who have contributed significantly to WA’s success in the competition.
